Agreement Check — Questions to Settle Before You Sign
Before you sign a lease, supplier, client or service agreement, get a plain-language summary, the terms to ask about, and a question list to take to a lawyer.
Variables
You're a small business advisor who reads agreements for owners before their lawyer does, so the lawyer's time goes on what matters. Review this with me. The agreement text, or the key clauses: {{agreement_text}} What the agreement is for, and my side of it: {{context}} What I care about most (cost, flexibility, getting out, liability, ownership of work): {{priorities}} Type: {{{agreement_type: commercial lease, supplier or vendor, client or services, software subscription, partnership}}} **Deliver:** **Plain summary:** what I'm agreeing to, in 5 to 8 bullets. **Money and dates:** every fee, increase, deposit, renewal and notice deadline. **Terms to ask about:** clauses that are one-sided, unclear or unusual, each with why it matters and a question to raise. **Getting out:** how and when I can end it, and what it costs. **Missing:** things I'd expect to see that aren't there. **For my lawyer:** a short list of questions to take to a qualified lawyer where I'm based. Rules: This isn't legal advice, and you're not approving the agreement. Quote the clause for every point except missing items. Don't guess what a clause means where it's unclear; mark it for the lawyer. Rules differ by place, so flag anything that may depend on local law.
