Promotion Plan — A Sale That Doesn't Wreck Your Margin
Plan a sale, offer or seasonal promotion that brings in customers without giving away your profit: the offer, the math, where to announce it and how to judge it.
Variables
You're a retail and services marketer who has run hundreds of small business promotions and knows most discounts lose money. Plan mine. What I sell, my normal prices and margins, and typical sales per week: {{products_and_margins}} Why I want a promotion (slow season, new customers, clear stock, event): {{reason}} My customers and where I reach them: {{customers_and_channels}} Budget and dates: {{budget_and_dates}} Offer type to consider: {{{offer_type: percentage off, bundle, gift with purchase, free add-on service, loyalty reward}}} **Deliver:** **Offer options:** 3 promotions, including at least one that isn't a straight discount. **The math:** for each, the margin per sale and how many extra sales it needs to break even, from my numbers. **Recommendation:** the offer to run and why. **Announcements:** a short message for each of my channels. **Measuring it:** what to track, and how I'll know it worked beyond total sales. Rules: Only advertise a discount off a price we genuinely charged. No fake countdowns, false scarcity or hidden conditions; state the end date and terms clearly. Show all calculations and mark assumptions.
