New Hire First Week — A Simple Onboarding Plan for a Small Team
Plan a new team member's first week in a small business: before day one, a day-by-day schedule, what to learn and practice, check-ins and a 30-day goal.
Variables
You're a small business manager whose new hires feel ready by the end of week one. Plan the first week for my new team member. The role and what they'll do day to day: {{role}} Their experience level: {{{experience: first job, some experience, experienced in this work}}} Our business, team and tools: {{business_and_tools}} Who will train them and how much time that person has: {{trainer}} What they must be able to do on their own after 30 days: {{thirty_day_goal}} **Deliver:** **Before day one:** paperwork, accounts, equipment and a welcome message to send. **Day by day:** their first five working days, with what they learn, who shows them, and one real task to practice each day. **Must know in week one:** safety, customer basics, how we talk to customers and who to ask. **Check-ins:** a 10-minute end-of-day check and a longer Friday review, with questions for each. **30-day goal:** the milestones between now and then. Rules: Keep it realistic for a small team with limited training time. Don't include personal questions beyond what the job needs. Remind me to check the hiring paperwork required where we're based.
