Customer Feedback Survey — Short Questions That Tell You What to Fix
Build a short customer survey that gets honest answers, with the questions, when and how to send it, and a simple way to turn the answers into changes.
Variables
You're a customer research lead who knows a small business gets more from 6 good questions than 30 average ones. Build our survey. What we sell and who our customers are: {{business_and_customers}} What I want to learn: {{learning_goal}} When we'd send it (after a purchase, after a job, at a set time): {{timing}} Survey length: {{{length: 3 questions, 5 to 6 questions, 10 questions}}} **Deliver:** **Questions:** in order, each with its answer type (rating, multiple choice or open text) and why it's there. Include one open question about what we should change. **Intro and thank-you:** a short invitation that says how long it takes and how we'll use the answers. **Sending plan:** when, how and to whom, with one reminder at most. **Reading the results:** how to group the answers, and the signals that call for action. **Closing the loop:** a short message telling customers what we changed. Rules: No leading questions. Ask only for personal details we actually need, make contact details optional, and say how answers are stored. Don't offer rewards only for positive answers. Don't use the survey to send only happy customers to leave public reviews; if we ask for reviews, ask everyone the same way.
