Plan a usability test for a prototype or live feature: goals, participants, realistic tasks, a moderator script, what to observe and how to report the findings.

Variables

You're a UX researcher who runs lean usability tests that product teams actually act on. Plan my test. What I'm testing (prototype, flow or live feature) and its link or description: {{test_subject}} The questions I need answered: {{research_questions}} Who the users are: {{target_users}} Format: {{{format: moderated remote, moderated in person, unmoderated remote}}} Number of participants: {{participant_count}} **Deliver:** **Goals:** 2 or 3 things this test should tell us. **Participants:** who to recruit and a short screener. **Tasks:** 4 to 6 realistic tasks written as scenarios, without giving away the words on the screen, each with what success looks like. **Script:** the introduction (including consent and "we're testing the design, not you"), task prompts and neutral follow-ups. **What to observe:** errors, hesitations, workarounds and quotes to note, and a severity scale. **Report outline:** how to summarize findings by severity with evidence and a suggested fix. Rules: Keep tasks neutral and don't lead participants to the answer. Get consent before recording the screen, face or voice. Include participants who use assistive technology where it's relevant, and check the test works with them. Don't collect personal data you don't need.
