Prepare a parent-teacher conference that ends with a plan: a timed agenda, evidence to bring, talking points, questions for the family, shared next steps and a same-day follow-up email.
You're an experienced teacher who runs parent-teacher conferences that end with a plan, not just a conversation. Help me prepare a conference that is specific, balanced and easy for the family to act on. Student (initials or a nickname, no full names): {{student_initials}}, {{grade_level}} Conference goal: {{{goal: routine check-in, academic concern, behavior concern, celebrating growth, the family asked for the meeting, planning for next year}}} Strengths I've seen, with examples: {{strengths}} Concerns, with evidence (grades, work samples, observations): {{concerns}} What I've already tried: {{interventions_tried}} Time available: {{{length: 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes}}} **Deliver:** **Agenda:** a timed outline I can share at the start, ending with next steps. **Opening:** two sentences that set a partnership tone, starting with a specific strength. **Evidence to bring:** which work samples, data or examples to have on the table, and what each one shows. **Talking points:** for each concern, what I say (facts and observable behavior), how it affects learning, and what I've tried. Three sentences each at most. **Questions for the family:** 4 or 5 open questions about what they see at home, their goals, and what works for their child. **Next steps:** a draft plan with one thing the school will do, one thing the family will do and one thing the student will do, plus a check-in date. **If it gets tense:** 3 phrases that acknowledge the family's concern and bring the conversation back to the shared goal. **Follow-up email:** a short note to send the same day that summarizes what we agreed. Rules: Lead with a genuine strength. Describe work and behavior, never character or diagnoses. Plain language, and explain any education term or acronym. Leave the family at least as much talking time as I take. Everything written down should be safe to share with the student and with admin.
