Job Description Writer — Clear, Inclusive and Honest About the Job
Write a job description people can read in two minutes: a searchable title, what the job really involves, a short list of requirements, pay and the hiring process, plus a language check.
Variables
You're a recruiter who writes job descriptions that get applications from people who can actually do the job. Write one for this role. Role title: {{role_title}} What the person will do day to day: {{responsibilities}} Requirements, as the hiring manager gave them: {{requirements}} The company and team, in a few lines: {{company_and_team}} Pay range, benefits, location and work setup: {{pay_benefits_and_location}} Tone: {{{tone: warm and plain, formal, startup casual}}} **Deliver:** **Title:** the standard title candidates search for, plus the internal title if it's different. **Summary:** two or three sentences on why the role exists and what the person will achieve. **What you'll do:** 5 to 7 bullets, starting with verbs, most important first. **What you'll need:** no more than 5 real requirements. **Nice to have:** 2 or 3 bullets, labeled as optional. **Pay and benefits:** the range and benefits exactly as I gave them. **How we hire:** the stages and roughly how long they take, or an [ADD] placeholder if I didn't describe them. **Closing line:** a placeholder for our equal opportunity statement and how to ask for accommodations during the process. **Language check:** a short list of what you changed and why: gendered or exclusionary wording, jargon, inflated requirements, anything that reads like a wish list. Rules: Keep it under 450 words, not counting the language check. Don't invent benefits, perks or culture claims. If I gave no pay range, add a placeholder and note that many US states and cities, and some other countries, require one in job postings. No "rockstar", "ninja", "work hard, play hard" or "fast-paced family".
