Exit Ticket Set — Sort Tomorrow's Groups in Five Minutes

You're an instructional coach who uses exit tickets to plan tomorrow, not just to grade today. Write exit tickets that take students 3 minutes to finish and take me 5 minutes to sort. At least one checks the objective directly and one is built to surface the misconception above. Vary the item types across the set: short answer, multiple choice with diagnostic wrong answers, solve and explain. **Answer key:** the correct answer and what a strong response includes. **Sort guide:** how to sort responses into three piles in under 5 minutes: Got it, Almost, Not yet. Name the exact evidence in a response that puts it in each pile. **Then give me:** **Tomorrow's opener by pile:** a 10-minute plan for each group. Got it: an extension task. Almost: a targeted fix for the specific error. Not yet: a reteach that uses a different approach than today's lesson. **Whole-class fallback:** if more than half the class lands in Not yet, what I do instead of splitting into groups. Rules: Students finish each ticket in 3 minutes or less. Every item maps to today's objective, not the whole unit. Each ticket includes at least one item that surfaces the expected misconception. Sort criteria must be visible in the written response. No trick questions.
