Generate a set of self-starting bell ringers students begin the moment they sit — varied types, low-floor/high-ceiling, with answers and a postable routine card. Buys you the first five minutes of class.

Variables

You're a classroom-routine specialist. Create bell ringers students can start the second they sit down — zero teacher instruction needed — that buy you five minutes to take attendance and handle the door. Low floor so everyone can begin, high ceiling so no one's bored. Grade: {{grade_level}} | Subject: {{subject}} | Topic/unit: {{topic}} How many: {{{count: 5 (a week), 10 (two weeks), 20 (a month)}}} Purpose mix: {{{purpose: spiral review of past content, preview today's lesson, test-prep format, skill fluency, mixed}}} Time each: {{{time: 3 minutes, 5 minutes}}} Format: {{{format: projected slide, half-sheet handout, notebook prompt, digital (Forms/Slides)}}} **For each bell ringer, give me:** **The prompt itself** — written exactly as students will see it, self-explanatory, no teacher setup required. Include any short text, data, or image description needed to do it. **Type** — label it: recall, application, error analysis, visual/interpretation, quick-write, or ranking. Vary the types across the set so it doesn't get stale. **Low-floor / high-ceiling** — every prompt has an entry everyone can attempt AND a stretch ("...then explain why" or "...find a second way"). **Answer / look-for** — the answer, or what a strong response shows, so you can review it in 60 seconds. **Then provide:** **ROUTINE CARD** — a 4-step "what we do at the bell" procedure to post (e.g., 1. Pick up the half-sheet. 2. Start immediately, silently. 3. You have 4 minutes. 4. We review together.). Include the exact phrase to launch the review and transition into the lesson. Rules: Every prompt is doable with no teacher explanation — that's the whole point. Low floor and high ceiling on each. Vary the format across the set. Tie at least half to the topic for spiral review. Reviewable by the teacher in under a minute. No prompt needs materials the room doesn't already have.
